1. In the Adirondacks, rustic is seldom synonymous with crude.  What it describes is a building or artifact that makes a seamless transition with the forest.  This is typically accomplished with exterior finishes of woodsy browns, accented by dark greens or reds, and by bringing the outdoors inside, with fieldstone fireplaces and wood furnishings that, incorporating bark or twigs or natural shapes, evoke the trees from which they were hewn.”
